In 2005, during interviews with professional yacht racing teams, engineers at DSM Dyneema compiled a “wish list” for running rigging and, as a result, started developing a new fiber specifically designed to meet these requirements. The new yarn was stronger and stiffer than existing Dyneema® grades while retaining the properties which have earned Dyneema® a place of honor in sailboat racing: extreme light weight, high durability (aging and bending resistance) and ease of handling.
DSM Dyneema's engineers managed to develop a new fiber—Dyneema® SK90— which fulfilled the many requirements of these demanding sailors, which included: the Dutch Olympic 470 team and Alinghi—winner of the 32nd America’s Cup. Dyneema® SK90 was designed for the highest level of performance, validated by the world’s leading manufacturers of yacht rigging and approved by top-notch sailing teams.
Today, this rigging is being made available to a broader audience of performance-driven sailors who are seeking the ultimate rigging for their vessels.
